My 5 year old daughter is still very wet at night (the same as when she was a baby). We've tried everthing and nothing seems to change.

We've done:

Stopping taking fluids after 4:30pm.

Toilet before bedtime and lifting her at 11pm as well.

Lots of praise if she has a dry stretch even if it was just from 7pm till 11pm (also taking her in the middle of the night).

Sticker chart/reward system and she really wants to achieve in this front.

Tried just taking off the pull-up nappies and try pants so that she can feel that she gets wet (she does not even wake up sleeping in the cold wee-wee).

Unfortunately she also has a habit of weeing in the pull-up nappies when she is awake if she is feeling lazy to go to the toilet (we tell her off for doing so).

She is a very, very deep sleeper and I wonder if this is the problem? When will things change, if ever!

rcn agony auntFirst of all 4:30 is a bit early for a child to no longer have a drink. They loose liquid quite a bit faster than adults.

Take her to a doctor to get checked. My daughter had the same problem for a while. She went to the doctor and we found out she had a weak bladder, it was underdeveloped and just had to catch up and build strength.

You just may be in luck!! I am 26 years old and when I was 7 years old, I also was still wetting the bed. My mom tried almost everything and here was my answer. My doctor told us that when I would sleep it would be comparable to a mild coma, he told my mom that she needs to get the most annoying alarm clock she could find, she got the one with the bells on top of it. Make sure it does not have any music settings, only loud ringing. Set it beetween 3:30 or 4:00 A.M.. Do not get up and turn it off for her no matter what. She will wake up, make sure you don't set it by her bed because if you do she may roll over and turn it off and go right back to sleep. Make sure the only way she turns it off is to get up out of her bed. Then she needs to go to the bathroom and try to pee even if she thinks she doesnt need too. It needs to be a habit that is consistant, soon she wont need it anymore because she will have re-trained her brain in waking up by itself. Is she a thumb-sucker? I had that problem too, which enabled me to sleep so deeply. The doctors cure for that was garden gloves, the bumpy kind. Also masking tape to keep the gloves in place over night. My problems were solved in a couple of weeks. I only slept through my alarm clock one time. It woke me up every time no problem. I may have taken longer at times to turn it off but I could hear it loud and clear. It would get so annoying that I would have to get up and do my deed. I hope this of value to you, let me know. GOOD LUCK!!!
