Hi :)

My daughter is 1 mth old and bottled fed. She has one particular feed in the early hours after which she simply is awake for about 2 hours! During the day she feeds and settles immediately and is an easy baby. For example this a.m it was the 4am feed after which she cried every time I tried to put her down, she finally settled at 6.30am and I am exhausted. I am afraid of bringing her out of the bedroom or talking to her, eye contact etc as I want her to learn that it is night-time-with result I end up stuck in the bedroom, in the dark with an unsettled baby for 2 hours every morning!Does anybody have any ideas? If it is simply her 'awake time' how do I re-set her clock??

Blessings Wendy.

Hi folks! Thanks so much for your replies! As it happens she started to sleep through the night the very day after I posted my plee for help lol!!!! I kept her awake from about 5pm, gave her a bath, a feed and put her to bed at 7pm in her own room, awake but tired. she protested abit for 3 mins then fell asleep. we fed her at 10pm in her sleep as a top up and she woke at 6.30am!! Now over a week later she is used to this routine and goes to bed at 7pm without a fuss. It is wonderful!! I am totally well slept, as is Abigail..and I am loving every minute with her! xoxox

Hi

I read this piece of advice in a baby magazine about 3 days before I found myself in the position and it worked a treat.

At the time my son was feeding every 2 hours including throught the night. The article stated that when feeding during the night you should leave the lights off, pick baby up from cot and feed and put straight back down immediately so as not to completely wake her and to teach her that it's night time and completely different from day i.e remaining dark. The VERY FIRST TIME that they miss a feed e.g if due at 2am, 4am, 6am and they sleep through the 4am then they should NEVER again be fed during that time. the reason they slept through is because they have the ability to and are recognising night time so if the next night they awake at 4 you should comfort them til they fall asleep again but dont feed. Their body has told you they longer need that feed and it's habit that has woken them.

Without a word of a lie this worked like a dream for me. luckily i read it 3 days before his first 'sleep through'.

Hope it works for you.

chellxx agony auntPlease dont worry she will settle into a routine a few tips i can offer you are as follows

Try to keep her awake during the day or early evening for a little while amuse her with toys etc

a warm bath will sometimes settle her to

While she has her awake time at night you could also try a cot mobile or musical toy with lights that could help to sooth her and give you a chance to relax.

If possible try to get a rest/sleep during the day while she is sleeping this will make it a bit easier for you to cope with while she wakes at night. A night light or soft lighting in the bedroom will also help there is no need to sit in the dark, low soft music could also help calm her and would also relax you to.

This phase will soon pass and she will soon cut out night feeds and sleep peacefully

Enjoy your baby

Take care

Chellxx

BABYS DO NOT UNDERSTAND DAY OR NIGHT AND THERE IS NO POINT IN TRYING TO TEACH HER

IF SHE UNSETTLES THEN TALK TO HER ROCK HER IN YOUR ARMS AND IF NEED BE THEN TAKE HER OUT OF THE BED ROOM

IGNORING HER ONLY MAKES HER WORSE

TRY TO KEEP HER AWAKE FOR A LITTLE LONGER BEFORE BED SAY ABOUT AN HOUR THEN IF YOU FIND SHE SLEEPS LONGER THEN TRY KEEPING HER AWAKE ALITTLE LONGER THE NAP BEFORE BED AS WELL

I DONT KNOW YOUR BABY BUT YOU DO BUT ITS ALL TRIAL AND ERROR

GOOD LUCK HOPES THIS HELPS
