He swears at him and treats him with utmost disrespect. My husband tried to be kind and warm, to punish him by removing his favourite toys but to no avail. It helped for a short while but then he resorted to the same behaviour.Towards me he is very loving and very much attached to me, however he sometime rude to me as well to a level where my husband and I feel frustrated, angry and helpless. How do you teach respect? Reply to this Question |

hi there
sometimes a 12yr old can really be a handful most of all annoying, at this age he wants to feel that he is the man and no one tells him what to do, thats why he is disrespectful and rude towards his father and loving towards u, maybe he sees his father as somebody with the overall authority at home and all he is doing is to prove that his father is not above him, dont despair most boys his age all go thru the same stage, he just need a firm hand, try talking to him and tell him straight what lack of good manners can do to him and how hurtful it is to the other people around him, if there is someone he despised bcos of lack of manners it can be in the family or ouside use that person as an example, sometime children react positively when they can see someone suffering the consequencies becos it scares them imagining the same situation happening to them, they act all tough but deep down he is still that helpless little boy u took home from the hospital 12yrs ago. hope this helps
