reader, anonymous, writes (13 September 2006): what has been asked by you is that if she does a runner and owes loads of rent you would have to pay it. it means you could be liable for paying back what is owed its just a security thing. i doubt that your dautghter would get into to trouble anyway not with a precausious mother like you.

If she doesn't pay the rent, then yes they can come after you but usually they will give a warning then throw her out after too many delinquent payments.
You say you are her mother and yet she is in such a hard position and your not jumping at the chance to help her. The most motherly thing you could do is understand the hardships of having children and volunteer to share your home with her. At the least help her with the baby so she can get more schooling and actually have a chance of living and not just surviving.
Your job as a mom doesn't end when your children become parents it just gets harder.
