My daughter has asked me to be guarantor, what does this entail and what would I be liable for ?

my 19yr old daughter is going to rent a house, she has just had a baby so is on income support. shes putting up the bond and a months rent, but the landlord wants someone to be the guarantor, obviously she has asked me, please can you advise me and let me know what this entails, and what i would be liable for if the rent didnt get paid

Charmedone agony aunta guarontor is someone for instance in your case if your daughter decides to pack up and do a runner if she rent arrears etc you would be liable to pay for these it's a security thing that has been in place for a while now xx

what has been asked by you is that if she does a runner and owes loads of rent you would have to pay it. it means you could be liable for paying back what is owed its just a security thing. i doubt that your dautghter would get into to trouble anyway not with a precausious mother like you.

Jadzia1127 agony aunt If she doesn't pay the rent, then yes they can come after you but usually they will give a warning then throw her out after too many delinquent payments.

You say you are her mother and yet she is in such a hard position and your not jumping at the chance to help her. The most motherly thing you could do is understand the hardships of having children and volunteer to share your home with her. At the least help her with the baby so she can get more schooling and actually have a chance of living and not just surviving.

Your job as a mom doesn't end when your children become parents it just gets harder.
