Hi, i (we) have a daughter who will be 4 in January, we also have a son who has just turned 1. Since our son came along she has been totally obsessed with him and it is beginning to wear a bit thin!! She never harms him but she picks him up carries him or just generally mauls him, we repeatedly ask her to stop but as soon as we aren't looking she at it again! any ideas on how to make her listen???

thanks for your reply meandmine, i really appreciate it, funny how its exactly the same scenario, even down to the age gap being exactly the same!!!!! Your advice has sprung to mind previously in the sense that i think he will get his own back in some way when he's a little bigger, he's learning as we speak and his voice is getting louder!! He's is also beginning to irritate her back with the "following around" thing too, so like you say fingers crossed the obsession will continue to demise!

Thanks again

Hi, my daughter was about 33 months old when my son was born and i had the exact same problem. if he cried she would carry him to me, head lolling about and i would find her in his cot in the night! she was like a second mum to him and would not listen when i asked her to back off. it wasn't until he got a bit older (they are 5 and nearly 3 now) and told her himself, either verbally or physically, that she started to listen. obviously he was told off for hitting but i'm afraid to say that it did teach her a lesson as he was (and still is) alot stronger than her.

i think it really changed when he was crawling and then walking as she began to find it a bit irritating as he would follow her everywhere.

i would say that as long as he is not getting hurt or too annoyed then just make sure she understands that one day her little brother will be bigger than her and may just get his own back!

good luck and keep smiling
